I don't know any "normal" families. It sounds like your granddaughter is blessed in having many people who love her and happy to celebrate one of her life transitions. Not so long ago, before the advent of modern medicine, public health, and a reasonable work week, she might have had far fewer folks to stand beside her, and many of them might have been "stand ins" aunts, uncles, cousins, or family friends who stepped in to shoulder the burden left by a lost parent. Grim thoughts for a happy time. She is lucky to have mature folks to give her a joyful send off! Hope all is well with you.
